Originating in 1884 Perpetual is a wholly own subsiduary of NZX-listed Pyne Gould Corporation. We are built on trust which has been earned through strong intergenerational relationships, commitment to meeting the needs of our clients, exceeding their expectations and operating in a way the makes us trustworthy. Our leaders are renowned in the industry and our team members are passionate about the well-being of their clients and are expert in their respective roles.

With this as our foundation, we have evolved to be able to meet the full financial needs of our clients through integrated solutions.

Where we come from

Perpetual was created as a statutory trustee company in by its own act of parliament in Dunedin in 1884. Over the years, the company and our people have weathered the great depression and the great recession, two world wars and a cold war and untold changes to government leaders, politics and ideologies. And most recently, we have been tragically impacted by the February 2011 earthquake in Christchurch.

We moved our head office from Dunedin to Canterbury in which we have become a recognisable part of the fabric of this area and have recently reopened new premises and reaffirmed our commitment to this region.

Through all this change we have remained true to our South Island roots and our values.

Our relationship approach

Unlike many businesses which are built on transaction volumes, our business success, indeed our ability to function as a trustee, is dependent on formulating a strong relationship with firm, clear objectives and business practises which are honest and transparent. As a professional trustee, we have a duty to put the needs of our clients first, a duty we embed in everything we do.
