Step 7. Full Assessment

Once your application for New Zealand Residence has been received, Immigration Officers will assess your claims and suitability for residence.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) will also assess you on your ability to settle in New Zealand successfully. You may be considered able to settle well in New Zealand based on your application, or INZ may wish to interview you.

The assessment process will be quickest if you have a skilled job or offer of employment in New Zealand, or if you have already studied in New Zealand. This study must have either been postgraduate or in an area of skill shortage or future growth.

Immigration New Zealand may need to interview you. Family members on the application do not need to be interviewed, but are welcome to take part. INZ will ask you about your familiarity with New Zealand, your employment prospects, and any existing support networks you have in New Zealand.

After your application for residence has been assessed and Immigration New Zealand have considered you as being able to settle well, INZ may approve your application and give you residence.

Alternatively, INZ may offer you a work to residence visa or permit, to give you the chance to come to New Zealand to obtain a skilled job offer. If you are able to get skilled work, Immigration New Zealand will approve your residence application.

INZ may also decline your application.

Immigration New Zealand will notify you of their decision.
