A guide to New Zealand Immigration: working in New Zealand
There are a number of categories that will allow you to experience working life in New Zealand. It depends on why you want to come to New Zealand, the skills you have to offer, and how long you want to stay.
Skilled Migrant Category - Permanent Residence
The Skilled Migrant Category is for people thinking of working and living permanently in New Zealand: gaining Permanent Residence. New Zealand is looking for people with the skills to help us achieve sustainable growth and contribute to an innovative work force.
Work to Residence
You may have an exceptional talent in sports or the arts, or you’re qualified in a highly specialised or in-demand field. You can apply for a work visa under the Work to Residence category. This category allows you to work temporarily in New Zealand as a step towards gaining permanent residence.
Temporary Work Visa
If you have an offer of a job from a New Zealand employer, you are skilled in an occupation that is in demand in New Zealand, or you are coming here for a particular purpose or event, you can apply for a Temporary Work Visa.
Working Holiday Schemes
If you’re aged between 18 and 30 years you may be eligible to experience life in New Zealand on a working holiday.
Employee of a relocating company
If you are a key employee of a business that is relocating its operations to New Zealand, you can apply for a work permit and later a resident permit under the Employee of a Relocating Company category.
