move2nz gatherings are organised by move2nz migrants in New Zealand and members around the world to bring people together in a variety of comfortable social settings to share information with others who understand. In addition to gatherings throughout New Zealand, these meet-ups have taken place in the United Kingdom, United States, South Africa, Singapore and the Netherlands.
Overseas Gatherings
move2nz meetups provide for very different needs. Overseas gatherings are designed to bring potential migrants together to share information; ease their worries and provide a social setting for them to talk about living in New Zealand with people who are equally interested.
Our July 2007 migration seminars and the meetups we organised around these are a perfect example of working to bring people together, enthusing them with the benefits of life in New Zealand while giving them a realistic idea of what life in Aotearoa will bring. Recently get-togethers have been organised in South Africa, Holland and in different parts of the United Kingdom around the recent Expos.
New Zealand Meetups
The meet-ups in New Zealand are planned to assist in integration; provide a network of encouragement and support for the difficult times and also work towards getting migrants involved in New Zealand life.
Recent gatherings have included the Auckland Skytower, beach picnics in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland and a women's weekend in Hanmer Springs. Last year we ran meet-ups at Rugby games supporting local teams and a netball game supporting the Silver Ferns against Australia. move2nz Team Availability
Assisting migrants settle into their lives in New Zealand, as well as dealing with a worldwide network of members, is not a 9 - 5 job and this would not work if it was treated as such. Most of the move2nz social events are hosted in the evenings and at weekends and we are available for support 24/7/365. Taking calls from tearful and desperate migrants at 11pm on a Sunday is not unknown!
A good example of the unusual requirement for availability is the meetup we held on Christmas Day 2006. Many migrants find their first Christmas in New Zealand a trying time in a new climate without friends and family in support.
We took a group of migrants to the beach for a barbeque, cricket and to gain an appreciation for Christmas in this part of the world. This was extremely successful and something we intend to continue. |
